the dispatch:
The upcoming shoegaze band:
There is a band that has formed by students in Bowie. It is called "Cupid Cult" and plays shoegaze and soft rock songs. They are about to release their first EP "Young Love". Their songs are on the topic of love, sadness, and human condition.
King and Queen of Springs:
The King and Queen of Springs is an annual traditional competition between the swimmers. First there is a 3 mile run and then the swimmers go back into their natural habitat and swim 200-300 meters. The first boy and girl are the King and Queen.

old people jokes:
top left- "On our old Brian's 100th birthday at his apartment, we brought in the cake, and since we weren't sure about his age we just topped it with vodka and lit it, the effect was awesome. He is an atheist, but when the flames went up, he commented 'Gateway to hell'."
top right- "At the Holby City Hospital the architect seems to have not given the plans a second thought. The architect didn't finish college, and doesn't know what Alzheimer's is."
bottom- "A 98 year old Russian WWII veteran Boris is firing a machine gun for the last times. He stormed Berlin in 1944 and can be seen on the famous photograph where Soviet soldiers are raising Soviet flag on top of Riechstag."

Abandoned Theme Parks
1. Tell me which amusement park featured in the two articles that you would like to visit and take your camera along and what about that park made you want to go there. Write at least a paragraph.
I would not like to go to any of those unwelcoming places. But if you forced me to go there, I would go to Pripyat amusement park, Ukraine. Mainly because it would be easy to communicate in the country- Ukrainian is very similar to Russian. And I don't like amusement parks, and I don't like this project, and I am not liking this at all.
2. Post one photo from that park. You may use the photos from the link, or you can google an entirely new photo. I would prefer to see a photo of the park in disrepair and not a photo of it when it was still operating.
3. Think of at least FIVE other unusual places you think would be of interest to photographers. List them.
Las Pozas, Xilitla, Mexico
Ice Hotel, JukkasjÀrvi, Sweden
The Hanging Coffins of Saganda, Mountain Province, Philippines
Los Angeles' Abandoned Subway Tunnels, USA
Street of Optical Illusion, New Zealand
4. Use google or another search engine to research ONE of your five places and see if anyone has already started documenting that place. If you find that someone has already started - post at least one photo of their work.
There doesn't seem to be any documentation other than the pictures from the websites you have linked.
5. Write a paragraph about why you think that it would be fun to document that location. Tell me what interests you about that place and what kind of photos you could expect to take there.
I honestly don't like the assumption of me enjoying documentation of any of the abandoned amusement parks, because I don't. Those place are sick and boring, and I don't have any interests in going there.
6. Tell me what it would take for you to go and take photos at your location. What would you need as far as equipment goes, travel plans, expenses you might encounter and what laws you would have to take into consideration to take photos at your spot.
I will need a good camera, with standard lens, I will need a map. I will also need money and money. And I would need friends.

Nick Brandt
1. On your blog post your reactions to what you read and what you saw. How about 3-4 sentences.
I like the photos that he takes, especially the portraits. I am really starting to hate the black and white photos though. I am also surprised that Nick doesn't use telephoto lens, because it's easier to shoot with them.
2. Do a google image search for Nick Brandt, find your favorite photo and post it on your blog.
3. Describe it and tell me why its your favorite.
It's black and white, and has a lion and a lioness. It's my favorite because
4. What rules of photography are evident in the photos you selected, be sure to explain the rule to me?
Rule of thirds, avoiding mergers
Do a google/wikipedia search for Nick Brandt
5. What kind of camera and lens does he use and why is this important?
Pentax 67II camera with 2 fixed lens, it is important because the lens captures the right moment, and the camera is based on film, so the photos are already b/w
6. What is his reason for taking these photos?
He wants to show animals in their 'state of being'.
7. What is his hope by taking these type of photos?
Raise awareness that the animals are under the threat of human civilization.
8. Find something he has to say about Africa, and post the quote on your blog.
"When people in Africa are poor and starving and there are no crops left to eat due to the deforestation and global warming leading to ever-worsening droughts, they cannot be blamed if they kill the last zebra walking through the bush for their family to eat."

warm up
1. What emotions did you feel as you worked your way through these images?
Well, sort of sad, but I don't really feel the emotions of the photographer, because that woman is a complete stranger to me.
2. The photographer said this: "These photographs do not define us, but they are us." What do you think about this comment now that you have looked at the photos?
The photographs show their life
3. Do you think you could shoot photos like this if you were in this situation?
I probably would shoot at all
4. If you could write Angelo a letter, what would you say to him?
I feel the sympathy for you, and I don't feel it for everyone.

B/W Photographers part >9,000
1.) What first caught your eye while looking at your photographers photos? Is there something in particular about their photos that made you want to choose them? Post the images with your writing.
The first thing that caught my eye was that they were black and white, and mainly nature. It was the nature that got me.
2.) Look at those 2 photos you posted last time in the assignment Great Black and White Photographers Part 2. Use your five senses to tell me more about those photos. Answer them on your blog.
Photo 1:
I see the mountains and the river flowing by. I also see the dark clouds gathering fast. I see that the sun is gone. I also see Ansel Adams taking a picture of the mountains.
I smell the odor of the flowers. I also smell the trees. I can smell Ansel Adams all the way from here.
I hear the birds chirping. I also hear Ansel Adams cursing at his camera. I hear thunder in the distance.
I taste the mosquitoes that flied into my mouth. I also taste the sandwich I took with me. And I still got the coffee aftertaste in my mouth.
I feel the mosquito bites itching on my leg. I feel the breeze on my face. I also feel the ants climbing up my legs.
Photo 2:
I see Ansel Adams sitting behind the camera. I also see my camera with which i am taking pictures. And I see some nice conifer trees.
I smell the fresh smell of conifer trees. I smell the croissants in my backpack. And I smell cigar smoke.
I hear the birds chirping. I also hear Ansel Adams telling me a story about his travels. And I hear the clicks of the camera.
I taste the croissants I put in my backpack. They taste really good. I also taste pine needles that a re bitter.
I feel the wind blowing on my skin. I also feel the camera that I'm holding in my hands. And I feel the pinecone as it hits me on my head.

mural project review
1. Think of at least three ideas you have about what your team could take photos of, that are in the same theme? Be creative, but be realistic. You will be shooting OFF campus, and every member of your team will need to be able to take similar photos or whatever you decide to do as a group.
We could take pictures of plants. We could also shoot people. And we could capture constellations.
2. You will be using the school cameras or your own similar camera. You will need to shoot in Manual. What are three things you will have to think about when you are out shooting?
We have to think about aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.
3. Although we have always done this assignment as a paper/printed product. I am interested in being able to show off these images/creations/murals online. What are some ideas you have on how to get these pieces onto the internet? List three ideas and how you would suggest to your team this second product gets created.
We could use website building platforms such as weebly and wix. We can also use social media such as Instagram and Facebook. And finally we can just post them on our blogs.
